How have you picked the place you were going to move to in the past?

For those who have moved before:

Lets say you have about 5 towns (all within about 20 minutes of each other) you're considering moving to. Some are closer to work, some are closer to your existing friends, and others are closer to other places where you know no one but have a good potential of meeting people.

How have you chosen "where to move to" in the past? Flip a coin? Just decide randomly?

Stories please.

I mainly considered climate and urban conveniences (nearby Best Buy, Costco, etc., availability of broadband).

Case-by-case. I looked at apartments in all of the towns within a ~12 mile radius of work that were decent areas but not super expensive. Then moved into the first one I liked.

Well, since I was to have been going a long ways into the past (like 10,000 BC), I will have been chosen spots only based on geography, climate, and relative geological activity, since my frame of reference isn't going to have been accurate due to my not going to have lived there until further along in my personal timeline.

Looking back, I still think I will have made a pretty good choice, though.

the only way. i would consider the neiborhood. crime rate and things like that. don't be too far from work or the gas bill will be high. also consider, as hjo3 said, urban conveniences. is there a market nearby? is there good service plans where you live? expense?

"Anywhere but here' philosophy..

but in all honesty, I went where my job took me and it was where I wanted to be anyway.
