How Has Tipping Personally Affected You?

Someone decides to put down a 20% tip for his/her bill. Someone decides to not put any tip down. Someone decides to tip the waitress at some dive restaurant $50,000.

How does this affect you?

Now, if you are a tipped employee, you obviously are affected - but, we are not talking about your job. We are talking about how someone else's tipping (what they do with their money) affects you.

For me: nada, no effect whatsoever - it's their money, let them do what they wish with it.

I'm not sure I understand...

Isn't tipping the result of something? Satisfaction of service rendered
and not something that affects a change?

I have to listen to how overpaid FOH staff are "only" making 2-3x as much money as the hard working dudes in the back who actually make the delicious food I eat.

Is it safe to say that what someone tips (over or under) or does not tip, does not have any effect on you?

I am wondering what happened to the people who are outraged over tipping. Did someone tip a waiter and then the waiter murdered their family as a result of the tip?

Did someone not tip, and then the waitress' anger was taken out on them?

What happened, or what happens, that results in people losing their shit over tipping?

Ah, you are a manager of a food restaurant then!

This is great!

So, your employees expect you to make that up to them then?

You kidding me? Servers are like vegan crossfitters, they'll complain to the first open ear that they just got stiffed (aka doing their job).

So, you are not a manager in a food restaurant.

And, your ire is due to someone complaining.

Correct?

A server once kicked my dog. I've hated servers ever since, terrible scum.

They smell funny too - like food. And butter.

OMG! Someone giving huge tips is going to tip the scales so that ALL servers now think they're entitled to HUGE tips from EVERYONE!

So we went to dinner Saturday. The wife puts the meal on the visa and I drop a $20 on the table. She says that's too much, picks up the $20 and puts down $15. I give her a look because I wanted to leave $20 so I take $5 out of my wallet and drop it on the $15. She picks up the now $20 (all 5's) tip and puts back down my original $20.

WTH? I'm now out $25. She smiles and asks if I want to play again? So, basically, I was affected out of my $$:$

How it has effected me?

I have given money to people. My housemate and I are also both formerly tipped employees (they waited tables and I delivered pizza.) So there's some money kicking around that we wouldn't have otherwise.

Sorry, all matters between you and your wife you'll have to take up with your marriage counselor/therapist (man, there's another profession I'm sure ATOT would do away with too). :D

I tip when I get my pizza delivered, and I continue to get my pizza delivered. Seems to work for me, I guess.
