How hard would it be to install A/C into a Honda Civic CX?

After last summer in the Utah heat of around 95-100 degrees I realized not having A/C sucks! I was looking around at ebay and saw this. I am pretty much a noob when it comes to car stuff but do you think it would be hard to install something like this?

i would think you would be better off selling and getting another car with A/C

If you have all the equipment, gauges, coolant and some know how to do that then it shouldn't be too hard to do it.

By that logic you can build your own space shuttle, fabricate a race car out of peanut shells and make a computer out of old blenders.

#1) You need to get the A/C system for your specific car. Different trim levels of the Civic will have different hardware because of engine and dash differences.
#2) This is NOT a do-it-yourself job if you're not familiar with cars. It's extremely labour intensive, will require running wiring all over the place and may even require punching holes in the firewall.
#3) This will be expensive. The "complete system" on E-bay (aside from not being for the same car) doesn't even have the wiring to hook this into the car's system. You'd need a new wiring harnes and the new climate control panel for the A/C also. I would not be at all surprised to see the total cost run upwards of $1,000 at a reputable shop.
#4) An OE A/C system is pretty much the only option. While there are generic kits out there, the do not work nearly as well and they tend to be of low quality.

It shouldn't be that hard. Only thing you'll need is the condenser mounting bracket out of a car that had A/C. He might not be including it. Other than that it's mostly bolt-in and you have to re-pin part of your ECU.

Riiiight..

Flush kit
R134 kit
compressor oil
vacuum pump
manifold gauges
new seals
new accumulator

And that's IF it is a direct bolt-in, assuming all holes, wiring, etc are there.

Overall - BAD idea.

roll all your windows down, open the back trunk. for all 10/15/65mph zones, they shall be treated as 150mph.


cost effective a/c. heater...now thats a diff story...

Dang this is what I thought. BTW the year is a 1995. So if I got a shope to do it I should expect around $1k for them to do it?

Ask around, ask friends, relatives, ask people who they would recommend for A/C work, then call them, and ask what labor might be, and don't forget materials. As said above, it may be a better idea to sell the car and buy one w/cold A/C. :|

Probably... most of that in labor charges since it will be a b!tch to get that thing custom mounted for your car... if that's even possible. I don't have A/C either and i live in LA... :(

Dang this is what I was afraid of. I would sell it to buy another but I don't think I can get what it is worth to me. Oh well.

Too difficult for the average joe with no experiance and tools to do the job correctly.

Parts required ;

Condensor
Evaporator
Reciever/dryer
Compressor
Crankshaft pulley/tensioner
A/C switches and relays
Throttle kicker
Plumbing
Refrigerant
PAG oil
Drip tube

Tools required ;

Full set of sockets and box wrenches/screw driver set
A/C vacuum pump
Leak detector
Test light
A/C pressure gauges

If not installed properly, you will end up with leaks in the system.
