Some information you have to give first:
Is this going into a finished ceiling, or is it going into a new construction (no sheetrock up)?
Is this going against insulation, or is it going to have at least 3-4" of clearing away from insulation?
Do you need the trim to be airtight or waterproof?
Finished.
No Idea, its for my living room on the bottom floor of a 2 story townhouse.
Neither.
Then you're going to need Remodel type recessed lighting.
If it's between floors, there may not be insulation. I would definitely check though. If there is an insulated ceiling, you need what's called IC cans, they're for insulated ceilings. If not, you can use Non-IC cans for non-insulated ceilings.
Then you won't need an airtight or special shower trim that they sell. You'll be fine getting a baffle trim, which is normally the most popular.
As far as wiring goes, it's pretty basic stuff. As far as installing them in an existing ceiling, it's a little bit of work, but it's not overly hard.
If you're handy, you should be fine.
One more thing to take note, is if the ceiling isn't more than about 8" deep, you're going to probably need what's called Shallow Housing on the cans. I know that the Halo cans are normally about 7-3/4" to 8-1/4".
