My girl;s toshiba will not charge battery and if you move power connector towards wall it stays powered just fine, if you move it loses power, it's not the battery. So I am thinking of replacing psu part, is it hard to do I've done light notebook dissaembly before and have plenty of gneral experience, any input?

It depends on the construction of the laptop. Some models, particularly older ones, had a separate voltage converter daughterboard. It might be a touch tricky to find a replacement; but the hardware swap would be the work of 15 minutes. Most newer laptops, for space reasons, have the DC-DC conversion bits right on the mainboard. You'll either have to be a very skilled troubleshooter and solder jocky, or replace the entire motherboard. The latter option isn't difficult; but it is likely to be fairly expensive.

It sounds to me like the connector itself is bad. I'd just swap it out with an el-cheapo RCA connector from RadioShack.

I suspect that is the problem. It is very common on laptops. If you can open it up, you might be able to fix the connector by re-anchoring it or replacing it.
