How hard is it to reactivate XP after a major hardware change?

I have an opertunity to sell my RAID board and CPU if I do it right away so I have to install a spare board and chip. My spare board doesn't have RAID, so I'll have to use a different drive also. I'll have to reactivate XP with a different hardware signature.

After the holidays (probably more than 30 days) I'm going to get a new m/board and chip and set up my RAID again. Once again, I'll have to reactivate with a different hardware config.

1. What kind of hassle am I gonna get from MS?

2. I work for a living, so I have to do this at night. Is the registration dept open 24/7 to do this?

Anybody have experience with this?

Once you call them its pretty easy, just explain the situation briefly and they won't challenge you. Worked for me.

The longest part is speaking all those numbers to the person, which takes a few minutes both ways.

Do you know if they are open 24/7? What time and/or day did you have to call. It may be midnight (central time) when I have to call.

Yes, open 24/7. Although when I called, I didn't have to speak with a live person. It asked me to punch in my challenge code via touch-tone keypad, I waited about 10 seconds, then the automated operator read back my activation code.

No hassle, their very open and understand.... just explain what happened and they will issue you a reactivation number almost immediately.
I'm almost positive their available 24/7.
