I've installed HSF before and I did not crack the core of my chip. I'm wondering how hard this HSF is to install? From what I understand, it screws into the motherboard like an Alpha would? What are the clips for?

First off, if it's anything like my old SLK-900U (which it should fairly similar in terms of installation) then it's most likely pretty easy. Remove the motherboard, hold the X-plate in place and screw the standoff's through the motherboard into the plate (with proper washers mind you), add some thermal paste, pop on the heatsink carefully, and tighten the spring screws until they bottom out (make sure you go in a criss-cross pattern to evenly spread pressure while you're installing so you dont damage the core)

Next, I assume you mean the wire clips? those go into little holes in the side of the heatsink and hold down the fan. They may look flimsy, but they have a lot of tension ;)

No problems installing them.
The heatpipes maybe a pain in the nut when u are trying to fix it on to the Mobo

otherwise its just like assembling another SLK.
My SLK 900 was too big at the side fins that I was forced to severly bend one of the capacitors nearby.
Luckily no smoke when I boot my PC.

doubt you'd encounter such problems as me ;)
