How hard is it to install a Pioneer head unit if you have the wiring harness?

I just bought a Pioneer Deh-7200 and I'm planning on installing it myself because I heard it is easy to install if you have a wiring harness...

I have a Mazda Protege 5 and I just bought a wiring harness and I'm ready to open it up.

B4 i do, i just want to make sure it isn't this complicated operation...

All you do is connect the wires from the car to the wiring harness, right?

the hardest part of it all is just taking out the dash face... its pretty much just connect the wires and mounting the unit... have your crimping stuff ready, though?

No need for crimping tools, just go to Home Depot and buy some wiring caps - twist them together and wrap in a little wiring tape and you'll be set ;)

Don't most places give you free installations? You just have to buy the harness. I know Best Buy and Fry's does.

Funny thing is, you can find most of their headunits for MUCH cheaper online. I dont' think I'll EVER buy any audio equipment from those kinds of chains again.

Is the deck you're replacing the exact same size as the new deck? If not, you'll need a mounting bracket for your vehicle. Otherwise it should be easy, just make sure you wire your deck to the new harness correctly! ;)

it's very easy once you got all the wiring together. just remove the oem radio and slap that new pioneer unit in, reconnect the adapters, put back everything.

did my clarion mp3 player install, 1 hr tops. really helps if you got power screw driver. ;)

It's fairly simple. I'd write down the wire colors before I d/c anything. Just in case.
(IE: the yellow wire from the head unit was connected to the blue wire in the harness.)
Sometimes, the hardest part is figuring how to get the OEM head unit out.

the trickiest part is removing the dash cover (to remove the oem stereo) without fvcking it up.

crimping the wires together is easy: match the colors. you should probably crimp off any unused wires, too.

double check your work. take your time. you'll do fine.

when I got my Pioneer DEH-P8400MP(I think thats the model) installed in my 2000 Ford Taurus SE (came with a factory amp) my dash looks similar to this one, so I took it to BestBuy (Yeah I know...) where they put in a new dash kit, wiring harness, and they had to rewire much of the audio system (damn ford factory amp screwed everything up).

If the dash is the normal rectangle slot for a radio I would just do it yourself, whereas in my situation where it required a lot of parts and labor then I just bit the bullet and took it somewhere.

I'm going to steal this thread. My Pioneer headunit was busted up when some vandals broke into my car so I need a new one. I'm planning on replacing it with a new Pioneer so I was curious if I would need a new harness for it. I hope that Pioneer hasn't changed them too much in the past three years. Does anybody know?
