Yawn. The ignoramus speaks.

People bowl for years and never get about 120 averages.

I suck at bowling, I go every once in a while and average in the low 120's..... Kinda like my golf game!
Anyways, I find that if I go bowling everyday for a week straight I can start to average around 160-180...

If someone bowls for years and doesn't get above 120, then said person is simply a natrural sucker at bowling and should play some other sport.

Nope.

People make friends on a league, they enjoy having fun.

What's so wrong with that?

Well, if I sucked that badly at something, I wouldn't wanna do it.
Kinda like drawing, I used to think that was fun, until I realized that I suck at it, just wasn't a whole lot of fun once I came to that insight, so I don't draw anymore.

Heck, I managed to teach a friend to bowl well enough to avarge 160 or so in just two months or so, and that wasn't with some ultra intense training program or anything.
Granted, his scores were very uneven, he could score 190, then sink to 120 the next...series?(what's it called in English), but still.

I just don't like doing stuff that I'm really bad at(as in, a natural untalent), but to each their own.

You don't respect the game if you think you can become good enough to bowl well enough in two weeks.
Clearly you don't deserve to bowl. Turn in your shoes.

get a few lessons from the shop owner, pretend you want to get into the sport/buy a ball/join a team

he will more than likely help you out, watch you and give you tips --- this is how i got started
in my prime i had a 215 average (but was bowling 12+ games every week)

First of all, theres no way you can get a 160 or higher average with an alley ball throwing a straight shot. I have only been bowling for about 2 years now and its very tough to throw that type of shot and have good results everynight. I usualy bowl 3-4 times a week, but I know some people that are there 5 days a week :p Like I said equipment is a huge factor. I started out with a Storm Triple X factor, got it fingertip drilled and my game really improved. Now I have the Triple X Factor Extreme and just within the last couple of weeks, its gone up about 30 pins. Its more about form though, because my friend who works at the lane bowls with a 7 year old zone ball and still has over a 200 average. I have the summer league tonight and we need to kick some ass to make up for last week. :)

Bowling is easy, just find one way that works and stick to it.

I guarantee you that I can use an alley ball and score at least 160 every time I play. Granted, you'll never see me go over 220, but I would find it more impossible to score below 160 than score a 200 game with an alley ball.

The only problem though..is that I suck at bowling, and don't want to embarass myself in front of our CEO, COO, etc..of whom I don't know very well and will probably just give me a polite "good job", which I hate more than anything else.

So now I can pretty much count the number of times I've ever bowled on one hand, and my highest was about 120 or so. How tough would it be to maybe get my score into a respectable 150-160 range in the next month or so? I'm sure it can be done with enough practice..but how much? This isn't something I'm completely obsessed with or anything, but the opportunity to participate in something like this seems like a great thing to do at my age..what with the networking possiblities and all.

Not hard at all. I got 4 strikes the first time I played. Just remember to have your fingers straight out when the ball leaves them and you'll have more control. Take a week to practice and you'll be fine. I also found I'm better with a lighter ball than a heavier one.
