At the end of this summer I'm going to be looking for a new job, hopefully in the business world. I would like to travel around for a few years if the job allowed or required it.

I'm wondering how much of a chance I have at getting into one of these companies and how I might get an interview. I will have an Associates' degree by then and 5+ years of experience in networking, PC repair, and server management with Windows Server 2000 and 2003, sadly no experience with Unix based systems. I get paid $13.50/hr now, I can't imagine they would pay less than that even at lower level positions. If they offered tuition reimbursement or higher pay than I expect, I would continue for my Bachelors'.

I want to get in somewhere I can climb the corporate ladder I guess. I know it's a rat race, but it's where I want to be right now.

Know someone and they need an opening. I mean other than that, I don't see an issue.

If I knew how qualified you are, I could throw in a referral, but I don't know, so I'd rather not.

Not very hard, although it'd be easier with a 4-year degree. I worked at Lockheed for 3 years. I'm currently working for Bechtel. The Bechtel site where I work requires a BA for all exempt employees including IT.

Shine your resume up and put it out there as much as possible.

Hey I'd be way more than happy to chat with anyone here who may have a way in. I can send a copy of my resume and would be glad to talk about anything you need to know.

If you were an engineer...you would have no porblem getting atleast an interview. Companies like Lockheed and Raytheon are always hiring new grads.

Large companies generally take a long time hiring someone. Their hiring process involves quite a bit of work, but I dont think it should be that hard.
