I'm considering buying an laptop Duron 700MHz 256MB RAM, $100. It works fine, except the power button requires an act of god to turn on. Intermittent short I figure. Anyway how hard is this to fix?

Never heard of a Duron - your best bet is to go on EBay and try and find the Service Manual for your machine.

time is all you need :) take the battery out and then figure out how to get to the hardware part of that switch.. might need to be cleaned or replaced.. or maybe you could improvise it in some way

OK - here is a power switch - where is the bezel?

I think he meant to say remove instead of replace

pop off the whole large plastic piece that covers the power switch

Thanks, I think I'm going to buy it and see if I can fix it. Its a Sony Vaio so there should be parts available if I need something specific.

sorry about that, with Dells the power switch is part of the keyboard bezel, so I usually send out a replacement for the bezel alone when there's a power switch issue.
