I figure this is ATOT, someone has to know, its a 1988 Ford bronco II that I could get for $100 or so, just thought I would ask how complicated it is before I even really consider it
Should be easy if you have a lift or pit. I'd look at the rest of the vehicle. Has it been driven hard? Why was the drive shaft broken? Are the miles high? You may be getting into a situation that requires more "hidden" maintenance than you're willing to deal with or pay for.
I am not sure about a Ford Bronco II design, but I have changed a drive shaft on a 78 Camaro and it was pretty simple. The front of the drive shaft is splined and goes into the tail shaft of the transmission, while the back of the shaft is held to the rearend by four bolts. Be careful not to knock off the caps and lose the needle bearings located on the end of the shaft attached to the rearend.
front, rear, axle shaft?? Ford notoriously uses Locktite on their axle shaft bolts, so you have to heat them with a torch to soften it up. If not, you'll be beatin the crap out or your tools, and hands.
Thanks for the info, don't know much about the vehicle, I only called on it to see, I don't intend on getting it until I look it over and determine its worth it
