How hard is it to change a LCD panel on a laptop

A friend of mine from work broker her LCD on her laptop, it has a very large crack, the laptop is fine but the LCD is toast. She went out and bought a new computer and she said she would give me the broken one. Its only a year old Dell, so does anyone know if it is difficult to replace the LCD and is it very expensive to replace it? Thanks.
