How hard are the A+ Certification Exams?

Is there a standard class you can take to get "certified" to service computers (hardware upgrades, formatting of HD's, etc). I know you can do it without any credentials but I would think people would be hesitant to hire you. I wouldn't mind making a few bucks in my spare time and I have confidence that I'm capable.

For all of you that are A+ certified, how difficult were the tests? I built the computer I am currently using, and consider myself fairly proficient with hardware and with the windows OS as well. I am definitely not a master at either though. Also can anyone reccomend a good book for studying, if you think it is neccesary? I don't want to pay for the tests just to fail, so I'll definitely study a fair amount if I end up taking them.

Theres A+ certification, but thats extremely low level stuff. You can check a community college for info on that. MCSE are good ones to get. Or Cisco certs. I'm sure theres countless others. Check a community college.

The A+ exam is the easiest 5 minutes you will ever spend in your life. If you can build your own PC, are interested in the technologies and can troubleshoot it when things go wrong you will have no problem whatsoever.

If you haven't taken it since november of last year you are in for a suprise. It is quite a bit harder than it used to be. Lots of new questions on all wireless setups in the new test. I've been in IT for the last 15 years and have taught a course geared towards A+ Certification for the last 5.
