How 'green' are you?

  • I don't care about my energy use and pollute/add CO2 with abandon.

  • I am green to the extent that I don't waste money on energy.

  • I combine trips/keep PC's off or suspended when not in use, etc.

  • I do everything I can to limit my CO2 output/energy consumption.

I'm slowly switching over to exclusively LED lightbulbs as my stock of CFLs run out. Beyond that, I'm "practically green". I'll turn off lights when leaving the room, turn off the AC/water heater when going away for the night, etc. But I'm not above leaving every light in the house on if I just feel like having a bright house.

The sad part is that being "green" seems to be almost solely attributed to CO2 output

For instance, hydro power is some of the cleanest energy there is, but is far from "green" when we consider how much dams fuck up the river and even ocean (salmon migrations) ecosystems

Since my electric bill is always estimated, there is ZERO point for me to try and go green. Instead I just use as much as I can and don't worry about saving anything.

What's the point? All it does is save ConED money, not me.

I'm cheap therefore I'm green

EDIT: about the only green thing I do that really has no monetary benefit is recycle and I do that a lot. It's not that unusual for me to have more trash in my recycle bins than is in my trash can.

green-ish... I don't like being wasteful, so I don't leave lights/electronics/AC running needlessly. I also reuse as much as I can and recycle where applicable, and I'm pretty into buying locally when it comes to food shopping if I have a choice, rather than buying stuff shipped in from halfway around the world.

we recycle, compost. nearly all LED lighting. ride our bikes a fair amount.

but i fly half way round the world every 30 days, so thats more than offsets any progress we make at home.

I do what I can but I'm not obsessed nor do I believe draconian laws should be enacted.

I guess compared to most "green" people, I'm not very green. But my overriding principle or standard is to not waste energy. I don't leave lights or water on if they're not absolutely necessary to what I'm doing, I shut my computer off when I'm gone to work during the day, and I drive a car (Civic) that gets decent gas mileage (~35 mpg average, mostly freeway). I don't recycle though.

Is there a shortage of Salmon? Are the loss of some Salmon impacting the planet?

Urban sprawling has far more impact on ecosystems than a simple dam to power that population.

Energy conscious sure. I'd get an EV and run my entire house of solar if the price were reasonable. If only to give a big middle finger to the oil companies and the government run power company.

However, don't give a rat's ass about climate change/global warming/whatever buzzword they're calling it now.

Not to worry, America will do the worrying and take care of it for your country like everything else.

I turn my PC off... Mildly, I care about money. What I do is balance the green with what I feel like spending or if I think it's cool, as long as it doesn't inconvenience me much. All the light bulbs in my room are LEDs at $15/pop because I thought they were cool.

Moved from a 20 mile a day (each way)commute to a 6 mile(each way) a day one. My wife and I each drove that distance independently. Was going through $250 a month in gas.

Now we are in a different town, traded a giant minivan in for a hybrid, carpool to work and use about $40 a month in gas combined.

I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. Not very green there.

Except those who are green with envy. :D

Oh how I'd love to have an SRT8....but I'm cheap and have no desire to have a $100+ fillup every 350 miles.

I'd like a SRT8 as well, just would be crushed by the fuel costs (driving 2000 miles in a month is not uncommon for me). In my M3 which has about 2x the MPG, I was spending $600 on average. However; the real problem was having to stop for gas almost everyday.

If I didn't also own a 2010 Mazda 3, I'd have toughed it out. I am going to wait until the Mazda 3 has some resale value and figure out my next ride then. Thinking 335is this time, but the new GTI also looks interesting considering my commutes.
