SSD and RAM will be upgraded

The video card combo is like #19 on NotebookCheck so it should be very fast, but is the CPU shit?

It should be fine. It obviously won't be at SB levels of performance, but it won't be sluggish.
Over at Notebookcheck, they say that in Cinebench R10, the single-threaded performance of the 740QM is the same as a C2Q Q9550.

Because it is a mobile CPU not a desktop CPU like the others on that chart. For gaming that is a solid laptop. It will have very poor battery life though.

Laptops not generally cut out for gaming. Yes they pack them with some awesome looking specs but charge a arm and a leg for it and it still doesn't compete with a desktop. Battery, heat and not much to upgrade on them.
