How good of a deal is this?

Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong sub forum, I figured this would be relevent to my question since there's a video card involved!

This computer is from a vendor, and I know there are obviously going to be charges for that, but I am hoping that it's still a pretty good deal?

Also, in relation to the specs, can this be considered a prett solid gaming computer? I have been out of the loop for so long (last time I bought a computer was 6 years ago) and would like to know.

Thanks in advance!

Although the topic is a little off-topic, you should try to haggle the price down. Most of his parts are at least a year or two old. I bet the seller's trying to 'upgrade' to Sandy Bridge and wants to rid himself of his old rig first.

Hey thanks for the replies.

This vendor is actually Ibuypower.com

So the parts are definitely new, and there is no haggling unfortunately.

-CoolerMaster HAF 922 Gaming Case - 100
-i7 960 - Liquid cooled - 300
-6 GB [2 GB X3] DDR3-1600 - Corsair - 100
-GeForce GTX 570 - 1.2GB - 350
-MSI X58 PRO-E - 150
-750 Watt -- Corsair CMPSU-750TX -100
-Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme -50
-500 GB HARD DRIVE -- 64M Cache, 7200 RPM -50

I roughly estimate the parts cost about 1200 so let's say 1300 give or take. That means you're paying about $400 for labor and OS (I'm assuming an OS is installed). Probably better than a Dell, but by no means a great deal.
Personally if you're looking for a gaming system you could do a lot better on your own.
I'd definitely ditch the hard drive in favor of a SD and a larger storage drive.

Pre-built desktops are never good a deal. Avoid them like the plague.*

Edit: The black plague, not that sissy ass bubonic plague and her moderate genocide-like casualty count.

Do you want to be seen in public with that case? The HAF922 is definitely one of those function before form abominations... :|

Let me try this again.

Yes, thats a very solid gaming computer, it will play 98% of games at very high settings and a good framerate.

For a couple hundred less, you could build your own, but after you add the operating system and Warranty and support (which I hope your getting) , its not all that bad.

Could you do better by building yourself? sure, but if you have the money, thats a very nice gaming rig.

Does it come with a keyboard , mouse or speakers, dvdburner , blueray drive?

You can get the same gaming performance for $1,200 with an SSD but yea if you have the money it isn't terrible

Honestly even that isnt that good of a deal, currently i see no reason to go socket 1366 for a gaming machine, gaming doesnt really use hyperthreading nor does it use triple channel RAM (at least not noticeably) Getting an i5-760 and over clocking to 4.0ghz makes a lot more sense from a price vs. performance standpoint at least until SB is released. If you want build you can buy today then i would look here.

^The point I was trying to make is that a custom built rig is much cheaper than a pre built one.

Otherwise, yeah, I agree. 1366 shouldn't become an option until after you've got yourself a really solid video setup, if your rig is for gaming. Like 2gb 6950's in crossfire or better.

And even then, it's better to just wait for SB.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, and thanks for that welcome!

Well, a few things I forgot to mention of cource were 2x 24x dvd/rw sony burners which is like $60 or so?

Keyboard and Mouse, 56k modem (need backup internet for work)

Also is preinstalled windows 7 premium W/ disk (I know some companies charge extra, hate that)

so all those add up to roughly $100-$200? more than what you guys were calculating.

And yes, there is a 2 year warranty + tech help/repair, etc.

And believe me, I thought long and hard before I decided to go with the purchase. It's difficult to justify spending more money than you have to on anything in life. The simple matter was is that I am a lazy person when it comes down to tech stuff in general. I much prefer to have something delivered and fully functioning out of the box.

I was just curious enough to post if what I was receiving personally justified the extra money spent. And it looks like it would be $1300-$1400 or so to build yourself, so to me personally, it does justify it.

On a slightly different note though, I am quite happy that you tech-savvy guys consider this a good rig, I was really hoping to get a good upgrade to my old old dying comp.

On another note yet again - The first place I went to was Dell. I have a preferred no interest account w/ them from way back, and I started building some computers there, and wow.. Such a rip off, it's ridiculous. Alienwares are even worse, and they are owned by Dell.

An example of a Alienware (Off the top of my head)
-i7 930
-6 gig 1300 ram
-HD 5870
-1tb hd
-onboard sound
-no other extras, all standard, nothing upgraded
-------
$2100

Ridiculous.

But anyway, thanks again for all of the info and feedback.

oems' rock since they work, are supported (3/3/3 nbd kicks butt!) and well dell outlet with coupon used to have awesome deals.

if you are going to buy why not sandy bridge? you get a lot more for your money and that 5870 is old school already. everyone does SSD primary even if 55meg.

i'd call them on sunday at 3am for support to see how good it is. some places like acer close down or never answer.. do that 3 weekends in a row before making up your mind. ask them hard mindless questions to see if they are real support people.
