I always have loved Plextor. I have an older 2.4X Sony and it's real hard for me to resist not upgrading to at least 4X before the dual layer drives are released...
Having said that, DVDXCopy is a fine application. I used it a few times but don't like the disclaimer it puts at the beginning of the disc. The method I use is a DVD Decrypter / DVD Shrink (used to use DVD2One) mix. You could just use DVD Shrink and forego DVD Decrypter. I just know the results I get using the method I use. Can't say how many I've backed up like this, but I can say I've only had maybe 1-2 problems on some of my episodic DVD's.
Unless you absolutely love the all-in-one of DVDXCopy, I'd use another method. Even the DVD Shrink all-in-one would be my choice over that. The best part is both DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink are free applications...
I have one of the Plextor's and it is awesome! I can burn a full DVD+R disc @ 8x (Using Ritek 4x Media) in about 6-7 minutes. I use DVD Shrink for my movies and I will say again that the Plextor is the best drive you can buy, period! The CD Burning is also very fast, feels faster than my 52x Lite-On.
