Guys, has anyone gotten one of these??? How does it compare to a panaflo L1A in terms of quietness? the specs are pretty similar, but sometimes specs don't say the whole truth.

Thanks

I've heard some mixed reviews about this "new" fan technology. Some say that there really is no difference in sound levels compared to same cfm "regular" fans and that the center "sweet spot" that is supposedly increased by the omission of the center fan motor is bull. The noise level of a fan is generated by the blades cutting through the air, not the motor anyway. However, I have seen at least one comment that the overall effectiveness of the fan is better. Whatever the heck they meant by that. The problem is that I have not found a good objective review on this yet. That in itself tends to make me believe that no one is too excited over this latest toy. I was seriously considering it for a while but I think I will hold off for now and wait for a few good reviews on it.

I think you are thinking of the Y.S. Tech TMD fans?

THis is a plain ole fan with suposedly good bearings since they come from Nippon Miniature Bearing (NMB) a bearing factory.

I got in on a couple of case purchases of these fans a while back. they came with some odd-ball 2 pin connector. I added a 4 pin molex and sold all of them (~160 fans) in the course of 4 or so months to fellow anandtechrs and other forum members. I have recieved nothing but excellent reviews from the people that bought them. I only wish I could get in on another case at the price I paid for them :)

basically, people could not believe how quiet they were for the amount of air they pushed (YMMV)

I got 4 of them in my antec sx-1000 and they seem to push a decent amount of air at a very reasonable noise level. I replaced 39cfm/32dba sunons with these and my temps barely went up. For two bucks I'd say theyre worth it.

I have both the Panaflo L1A and a couple of the NMB fans. I picked up the NMB fans from Case-Mods for $1.99 each and they do have a funny little two wire connector on them. I just cut the connector off and hooked them up to a four pin connector.

To me both fans sound the same. I can not tell any differance between the two. For the money, I would not give it another thought and purchase the NMB fans. I do not think you can beat this low noise fan for $2.00.

Well, you convinced me. Now I just have to decide if I get them from SVc or case-mod. ;)
