im going to assume that its not as powerfull as the others but I would say its probably also the cheapest right??

It has the same core and mem speed as the 640MB GTS, but half the RAM. This tends to hurt it a bit at higher resolutions with AA enabled. The GTS is slower by a fair bit than the GTX as it has some shaders disabled and somewhat lower clocks IIRC.

but the disabled shaders can be taken care of by ocing it right?? or is there a way of enabling them??

No you cant "take care of the shaders" by oc'ing it. No you can't enable them either....yet, most likely never.

ahh, i remember the days of my 6800 vanilla.. was able to enable the disabled shaders and got a nice 10% bump. Just wondering, why do you think we won't be able to enable the shaders eventually?

I think the OP has to do a little research, even if it's just a trip to newegg and find out why it's #3.

I think not because Nvidia learned from their previous mistake in which you previously capitalized on.

They typically physically disable the pipelines now via laser-cutting rather than by turning them off in the card's BIOS like in the 6800 series.

why cut them .. when they're already built that way? It's not like they'll save any money on the parts by destroying the pipelines..

sigh, making money.

Actually, if you can get a 25% overclock out of the card (not impossible), it will have just as much 'shader power' as a full GTX (at stock).

I realize that, but you could oc the GTX to speeds that would totally kick the snot out of a GTS. It just depends on whether or not you get your jollys off of owning the best or by tweaking the crap out of your card to get more "value" out of it. Ofcourse it could also come down to $$ issues, which I totally understand

crap imo, especially if you're going with evga since it has the lifetime warranty even if you overclock and put a 3rd party heatsink on it. get the $259 AR evga 8800GTS 320MB like i did and overclock up to those speeds...mine is at 600/2000 stable so far and i can push it higher if i need to.

how do you go about ocing a gc?? is it easily done through bios or can I do it through the utility that came with my gigabyte mb (easytune 5)??

im really leaning toward this 259 card, but dont know if I should wait a little longer to see if the price drops a few bucks more!!

nvtune, powerstrip... ATI tool for ati cards, the bios will let you overclock the pci express buss but not the graphics card and easytune also probably wont let you touch the graphics card
