How good is the Thermalright SLK-800? VERY!

Just rebuilt my Computer (New Mobo / CPU, Don't ask it's a long story!) and decided to try a different HS/F combo to replace my tried and true Swiftech. I was getting temps of +/- 42c with my Swiffy at full load.

SLK-800 @ Full load? Try +/- 34c (Using the EXACT same Sunon 32cfm 80x80 fan)

Holy Sweetness!!!!!

The only HW change was swapping CPU's from a XP2000+ to a MP 2100+

34c at full load??? Dose not sound possible to me 😕

n/m, I always overclock, I've forgten how cool things run at stock 😛.

Yea, after a full day of gaming, I think I cap out at 37c 🙂 I love my SLK800
I used Artic Silver 2 as well, and spread it as thin as an onion skin.

I got the slk-800 for christmas and it's awesome. My temps. dropped 5 or 6 degrees (I was using an AX-7 before) and I couldn't be happier. However, how the hell the do you guys get temps. in the 30's!?! I use arctic silver 3 and unfortunately I didn't have anything to put on a really thin coat (I was using a key and I was worried I would scratch the core). My temps. are in the low to mid 40's and I have plenty of case fans. Could a thinner application of arctic silver drop the temp.?

Yup, Never forget the super thin layer of ASIII... You should be just able to read the CPU die info through it.

Also the Sunon I have is a sweet fan. Moves a nice amount of air and the Lian Li case has 5 additional fans. Also a moderately cool room helps.

Well, I always have a pack of cheap razor blades around from wallmart 🙂 I usually try to put a couple of dots of artic silver at the edge and maybe 2 more near the middle, then just slant the blade and let its own weight glide over, maybe use a slight pressure but not much, wipe excess on papertowl or cotton swab as you go, and yes you should be able to barely see the info thru the silver. Also I have the newer Antec AMG1080 Case..its very large and well ventilated with ample case fans...so air flow is very nice. I also have a variable YS tech fan 80mm on top of CPU set at max...I can barely here it when case is closed....sound doesnt bother me tho coming from many years of those hair dryer 60mm fans 🙂

mjolnir2 take a credit card (old - no good) or equivalent and cut it into little plastic sticks about 1/4 of an inch or so wide (any length), then bend the end to a 90 degree angle about 1/4 of an inch and you have the perfect tool for applying any thermal paste. It works like a charm, been doing it for a year now.

Hmmmmmm...I guess I'll take off my heatsink and see if I can thin this layer of arctic silver. If I can get my cpu temp. to 40 or below, that would be awesome. Thanks guys.

Hmm...aren't the 2100+ MP's T-breds??? The 2000+ XP's are all currently Palomino's, if so that would explain the huge drop in temps (not that the SLK-800 might not be better regardless.)

So.....when are you gonna overclock that puppy??? 😉

Most with temps in the 30c's are not running overclocked... room temp of 70f SLK800 with a 68CFM delta 1600+ AROIA-Y @ 1.9 Gig 2.05v's... 52C If i run it at default its 35C loaded. This is on a 8K3A+ also and they read high on the temps...

Good point, that may be the case. Still like the SLK beter for additional reasons (Mounting design being the #1 reason).

OC my new baby...hmmm, As you know I had just quit the OC business, but dang! this IS a fully unlocked CPU.....)

*must fight the temptation

yeah this is a great heat sink, my idle temps are 24C and Full load OC 1700 to 2100 speeds at 333fsb at 32C, I only have one fan in my el cheapo case.

I have been to the OC. . . and it is gooooooooooooooooooooooooooood
