How good is the DVD authoring functionality of Media Center?

I have some video editing to do. I have a couple of ~25 GB AVI's from minidv captures I'd like to make minor changes to and author DVD+R's from. I was disappointed with the trial DVD's I made from one of these with Nero 6.0 because of the noticeable degradation in the image. I figure it's because of an inferior compression engine in Nero.

Will Windows Media Center edition or Vista Home Premium with their DVD authoring functionality provide what I need here? TIA.
