how good is the amd retail heatsink?

if i get the retail version of the amd 3200+ processor, it comes with a heatsink and fan. How good is their heatsink+fan combo? Does it do the job?

If it comes with that heatsink and fan than it has to do fine or they couldn't sell it to you, but who leaves there processors at stock speeds? If you plan to overclock or maybe if you just live in a hot room, I suggest getting a better heatsink and fan.

Athlon 64.

Is it good enough for a little overclock?

If your are not into overclocking, then this is a good HSF. Kept my 3200+ at 47C under load for many hours at a time.

My athlon 64 3000 stayed cool in a AC environment in a well ventilated case with a 220 x 10 overclock. Of course, my motherboard can't really handle the over clock.

retail cooler as you can see it has a variable speed fan and Shin-etsu for the T.I.M so it's a great cooler for stock, and the only one I didn't remove the T.I.M. from.

Maybe I just got lucky, but the retail heatsink kept my 2500+ Barton stable at 3200+ 2.2Ghz. Highest temp I saw was 56C. I swapped it for an SLK900U and now CPU temp is around 47C under load. Big difference, but it was already stable before and under 60C is safe for Bartons so I didn't really *need* it. It's probably as good as any other $10 heatsink you can buy. It'll definitely keep it stable at stock speeds and maybe overclocked a bit too.

This is for the Athlon XP. I haven't seen the A64 retail heatsink.
