How good is the 128MB GF6600GT PCIe?

Lot's of abbreviations...and it's amazing that I've finally built my computer that I've been contemplating about for a year or so.

Anyway, to the point. I'm quite pleased with my ASUS GeForce 6600GT PCI Express. For some reason, though, Counter-Strike Source runs slower in many places than the graphically superior Painkiller. Oh well.

What I'm wondering is did I make a mistake by getting the 128MB version? the 256MB one cost about twice as much, so that was ruled out, but would a 256MB AGP version have been better?
I decided to get the nForce4 PCIe board with A64 3200+ instead of an AGP solution; altough I'm very inexperienced with hardware, I figured this way I can upgrade later without having to switch motherboard all over again?

And comparing, say, my card with a Radeon 9800Pro or XT, how good is it supposed to be?

Finally, what is the biggest aspect of the video RAM of a card? Texture resolution, or? Cuz I like my textures clean and sharp. ;)
I guess what I'm asking about is whether or not 128MB's of video RAM is still OK for my kind of system?

Remember that hardware where I live costs, as an estimation, between 20-50+% more than in the US, GF6800Ultra are about $700...

Your card's 128MB of memory runs at 1GHz (1000MHz). The 256MB version, runs somewhat slower. In terms of raw speed, your card is the better of the two.

Why does it cost so much more for you guys? Is it not possible to have an Antech person mail it to you?

I don't believe 256MB brings a big performance improvement over 128Mb, unless you usually play at high resolutions such as 1600*1200 with 4x AA. By the time games require 256Mb, I think that the new generation of GeForce GPUs will already be out.

well the 6600GT benefits quite a good deal from the 256mb when the resolution is cranked up but only until 1280x1024...anything more than that the GT falls apart! 256mb is used nowadays in games like doom3 and hl2 where u require 256mb...512mb has not yet come into the fray!

nor will it ever on current gen cards. only the new ones will actually use the 512 ram. its another marketing trick.

Like some say about the SLI? ;)
Look who's talking, I got that board...

Okay, it seems that 128MB is fine, which is nice.

Things are expensive here for a number of reasons:
1. Higher employer and vendor taxes. Lower wages, less wealth. Higher sales tax (25%, which amounts to a sizable sum of cash) and so on.
2. They just are. Less competitive market.
3. Incoming wares from abroad will be taxed.
