From a Home, and SOHO perspective there is no real big difference between the Entry level Network Appliances. In matter of fact, most of them are build by very few OEM manufactures.
These gizmos are build toward regular Network traffic. When they were conceived the companies did not thought about Network for games, and elaborate Internet schemes.
If you follow the content of a BBS (like this one), you will see that most of the serious complains has to do with the above. Adjusting the capacity for things like games, and Internet is a matter of Drivers, and firmware. Some Network companies (who mainly care to cater to business) don?t really care about these matters.
Because of the differences in price scheme you can find the exact same OEM sold to the regular consumer for $100, and under different name to cooperate user for $200.
As Scott says, Proxim has good reputation. The prices on Just a Deal are very temping ($39 for Wireless PCMCIA cards). However I will not be surprise that people will try them and will find that it works but it will not jump through the hoops.
