It seems to me that I have developed a point of view that I would like to share with every one. Some of you may agree, some of you may disagree and thats cool.

Reading all this stuff going on here lately about NV v. ATI and G80 v. R600 ect, seems to me a bit rediculous. When specs, facts and rumors run rampant through threads and tech articles ect, I think we kinda loose some focus on the real reason we are talking about these devices in the first place: UNBELIEVABLE GRAPHICS IN OUR GAMES.

Does it matter that an ATI beats out an Nvidia by a ew fps? how relavent are a few fps? Will both devices give great end user performance? If yes, pick a color and have fun. if no, DONT BUY IT.

It honestly seems like nothing more than some ePenis waving going on. I have seen some CRAZY threads with quotes with like 19 quotes already in it! If we REALLY need to nitpick THAT deep, I think many of us need to be quality control experts cause DAMN do yall find some insignificant shiznit and FLOW with it!

I guess to sum up my statement, everything we buy, build and stress test is for ONE thing. The BEST gaming experiance our hard earned dollars can buy based off of PERSONAL preferences.

Remember guys, there is variety in the market for a REASON.

I agree with Thug....First it was NV with SM3 support. And ATI didnt have it yet. So the thread's were ( Buy NV...their better...They support SM3 and ATI don't ) Then....it went to....( Buy ATI....they have HDR + AA and NV don't. When R600 and G80 is released in force, and enough cards for everyone...buy what suits you...not what someone tries to convince you to buy.

Now when I bought my X1800XL....yes it was based on IQ. I sat for about 3 1/2 week's deciding between it and the 7800GT. Seen review's that the GT was slightly faster in some games, equal in other's. But the IQ is a big thing for me. Like HQ AF and the like's. It took everything I had not to buy a 7900GT instead of the X1900GT I have now. But what made my mind up for me was all the RMA's from NV. I wasn't going to take the chance of a bad card. So....stuck with ATI again. Here are the cards I have owned...

3DFX Voodoo 3 3000 AGP
Geforce 2 TNT
Radeon 9600
Radeon 9800 Pro x 2
X800 Pro
X1800 XL
X1900 GT

So say what you will, but until NV convinces me that they make better cards...Ill stick with a winner. Never had a problem with ATI. And that is not fanboyism, its the way I am. Yes though, I am an ATI fanboy...and Ill admit it. But that won't stop me from buying NV in the future or to bash NV.

Rant over

I think what the OP says is true some of the time; but other times, and also for certain games, there's more at stake. Such as, Oblivion. When it became possible to run HDR+AA with ATI, I immediately bought one and gave the 7800GT I had, to my brother. I cannot stand jaggies... I NEED my AA; but the HDR was so nice also, I couldn't live without it. But in other cases... it may that there is no "killer app" so to speak and at that point it just becomes nitpicking. Ultimately... too many variables to get a definitive answer.

I've backed off on PC gaming lately, so I'm out of touch with the latest goings-on and I don't really know what end is up anymore; but I still think I've got the last card I'll need for a good while so I'm done trying to get that last extra FPS.

What about the point that the graphics produced by ATI look nicer? ;)

I can't say that I disagree with you about some of the nonsense, but you have to remember that the nitpickers and zealots don't make up the majority. First of all, AT forum members aren't typical of the average gamer, plus most of the threads you are referring to involve only a few people (mostly the same few). On the otherhand, I think that web forums and the people that pay close attention to detail have their place as well. I think it's pretty clear by now that if they were left unchecked both NV and ATI would optimize the hell out of their drivers, but I think that the community somehow keeps them in check. Another benefit that I have seen coming from the forums is that some websites have begun benchmarking with high quality settings instead of the defaults, sadly AT is not one of them.

I guess to sum up my statement, everything we buy, build and stress test is for ONE thing. The BEST gaming experiance our hard earned dollars can buy based off of PERSONAL preferences.

In a perfect world, yes. The point is that most people can't buy both products to determine which one will give them the best experience, so they have to rely on reviews and the opinions of those that have already tried the cards they are interested in.

The last thing to remember is that there will always be the speculation threads about upcoming parts. By its very definition, there are very few facts in a speculation thread, and emotions (and egos) tend to run high in those that tend to speculate the most, so the putcome is obvious. The speculation of what is to be is half the fun of being an enthusiast though...
