How good is Freesco's DNS caching?

Would it benifit me to build my own caching DNS server? I know I would benifit from the learning experience but what about performance wise?

I run one for my home network. It doesn't make a big difference, but it was a great learning experience. I learned a lot more about networking. Once the cache gets built up your resolving speed is a little faster, but that is usually the least of your speed problem.

The biggest benefit is that when my providers DNS goes down and the net service is still up, I can surf the web. This has only happened once..

Yeah my ISP's DNS went down one time for 16 hours. I just switch my DNS to my works (web-hosting company). Now I am up all the time. I think you are right though, the learning experience would be great... now only if I could get some time to do it.
