I ended up having to file a dispute with my credit card company because of their incompetence.

In short: I bought a video card, they sent be the wrong one. They ended up saying that the manufacturer didn't in fact make the one they sold me, I searched around and found out that they did in fact make one. I tried to get them to give me something equivalent but they wouldn't do that, and they wouldn't even refund my money within a decent time span. If you check their site it takes up to FIVE WEEKS before money is back into your account after they screw up! That's outrageous.

I called about this and they said I would get my money back within a few days of receiving their product back. I then quoted their policy directly from their website and the guy basically said "oh" and blew me off. I spoke with his manager about how it was outrageous, IIRC I asked for his name and he wouldn't give it to me. I said I was going to file a dispute if they didn't work something out and they said "OKAY!". That's completely unprofessional, and downright rude.

I went to my bank the next day, and ended up making buy.com go through a lot of trouble all over a video card that they misrepresented (which is illegal). They didn't even believe at first that I had gotten the incorrect one. They updated their page shortly though, I wonder why.

Read their resellerratings (lifetime score of 5.19, 6 month score of 2.67). They're a shady company and although they have good deals on occasion, I would stay far, far away.

As for other stuff, they're usually ok.

Service is ehhh. No phone # to call. I once bought HL2 Collectors Edition during a crazy sale where itw as $28. I shipped it to the wrong address and they didn't respond in time that Fedex shipped the HL2 back to them. THe only way for me to get it was to reorder. I blamed them for being too slow to contact Fedex to fix the address. As a result, the HL2 deal was over and itw as like $80... I had to settle for a Fry's $19.99 deal later on, but that was just regular HL2, no collectors dvd version.. =(

First off everyone should have this page bookmarked:

I used to have good experiences with them except the last two times they screwed up.

Last time they sent me a full frame version of a movie instead of widescreen and before that they lost my order.

you cant cancel orders - in order to "cancel them" u have to refuse the shipment

they rip you off on rebates - they "lost" my rebate, twice.

Well, I'm not using rebates, and I can wait about a month or so ... I just hope they don't send me the wrong item.

Is %5 off (max $15) off a purchase considered good for buy.com?

10% would be better, it's so-so.

Their Free Shipping frequently gives them the edge on price. I've made satisfactory purchases from much more risky sellers, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them myself.

I've ordered from them a bunch of times. I got screwed over once when they ran out of an "in-stock" item, and didn't bother telling me for a few weeks at Christmas time. I didn't order from them for a long time after that, but I finally ended up caving in because they sometimes have good deals.

I'm on their email list, and every once in awhile they send out a coupon. My latest one was 12% off anything, but only valid if you got the email (and the system does check to make sure that your login name and email are the same). I've never had to return an item. Shipping isn't the fastest, but I always use the free shipping option.

I've purchased a bunch from them in the past. The coupons and such aren't -quite- as good as before, but a definite alternative to amazon, given that Amazon will charge sales tax for me.
