I like the USP. Like, not love. All HK products are pretty good and they price them to reflect that. I personally think the USP is dated and depending on what caliber/version you're looking at, you're better off with the P2000 or P30. If you're going full-sized, then yea, the USP is nice. If compact, then the P2000 or P30 are more modern versions of the USP compact. The magazine release doesn't do it for me, but I like the hexagonal rifling and how easy it is to clean the inside of the barrel. I'm accurate with them but don't want to pay the price. My personal favorite company is Sig. The p226 and p229 (which I've had) along with all other P2xx are solid designs.
Life isn't like a video game, so try to join a local club/forum and get out and try some before buying. Oh, you're in maryland, about as bad as me in California, but you should still be able to get them.
