My dad currently owns a Dell 8200 with Dell M991 19 inch CRT monitor. I believe it has a Geforce 2 video card with VGA out only.

He wants a flat panel because all of his friends have one.

His vision isn't so great anymore, so he wants a big screen (resolution would probably 1024 x 768 or slightly more, so it wouldn't be optimal resolution) so he can see text bigger when surfing the web or word processing.

How good / bad in the Dell E193 flat panel display for his purposes? And are there any cheap, but quality and reliable alternatives?

If you're not running an LCD in its native resolution is usually looks pretty crappy. I think the e193 is 1280x1024 or something, so you'd probably want to keep it in that resolution, however in WinXP you can quite easily change all the fonts of everything to bigger sizes which would do what you want.
