how good are these power supplys?

the last 2 are no name and appear the same but one mentions a lifetime warrany

the #2 and #3 options are cheesy pricewatch vendors at first impression

but really i have no clue as to whats what here.

they are all in the economical range (20-40 bux) i need. i dont believe in paying 50-100 on a PS since i know
many inexpensive ones can poull the load.

my Asus a7v333 popped a 400 cheepo supply when i put a modem in it.
this board needs more power i'm sure of it another one i sold in a pc wouldnt even post
until i put a better PS in it.

so anyone got these and like or dislike them?
and the dealers...? stand behind their stuff?

Pretty obvious what you need to do: Buy quality, not quantity. Believe me, those $15 "520W" PSUs will blow up under minimum stress like it's their job.

Check out this Fortron 350W PSU. Doesn't break the bank, and will slaughter those "500W" PSUs you listed above in reliability and power output.

Fortron PSUs rock. Don't ever skimp on your power supply. I had a Thermaltake that took out a 250 gig hard drive full of data and that PSU was better then what you have there.

I doubt very many people here would have experience with these certain brands, but that's probably because they're cautious enough to understand they are too good to be true.

Cheapo PSU manufacturers will lie their butts off to get you to buy this junk. They'll rate the PSU's maximum wattage in perfect, ideal conditions that would never happen in the real world. That's why they are rated @500W+, but are so cheap in comparison to name brands. They'll never even get close to supplying 500W in reality. Don't be fooled by the label and claims that they compare to $100+ models. Those are lies.

However, don't think your PC is sucking a ton of wattage, it's that those generics aren't meeting the demand of your system. You don't need a 500W generic. You need a quality 300W+ PSU that isn't going to let you down. I bet your system isn't even drawing ~125W@full load. I've seen plenty generic "500W" PSUs that can't even handle that. And when they can't handle it, they pop.

All we're saying is don't waste your money. Doesn't sound like you want to throw a lot of cash in for a PSU. And that's ok, but that doesn't mean you can't have a trustworthy name brand in your PC.

Notice this company says their psu is 510 watt even though they are rated at <650watts. This means that it can handle 510watts at standard operations. That is efficiency and what you are looking for. They are not advertising max potential load wattage (that a PSU may achieve for 1 second in its whole life) but a realistic standard number. That is what Sonic587 is talking about. This is a real PSU. I am not saying get this one but this is a good example of a PSU

ok so searching for Fortron brand i found a good price on this model:

FORTRON SOURCE ATX300GT 300W

the Asus a7v333 i'm running is a RAID board btw..I've never ran
a board that demanded more power like this one.

What are the rest of your system specs in detail, divxdude?

I would suggest you stay with the 300W+ FSP models I listed above. The ATX/HiQ models are Fortron's budget oriented line. IMO, it's worth it to spend the extra $4 to get atleast the 300W FSP model. That gets you better build quality and a pretty quiet 120MM fan that helps with cooling your PC.
