I was looking for a USB flash card reader for my digital camera and newegg has some good deals on Mr. Flash products.

I was wondering if these items were good, and do they work ok with Windows XP?

Also does the flash memory have to be from the same company as the reader?

The flash memory doesn't have to be the same brand as the reader. Lots of people like Mr. Flash, but there have been some tests that show them to be considerably slower in read-write and consume battery faster than the top brands like Lexar and Viking. They are a great price, but the CF consortium is looking into whether they actually meet the full spec standards.

There's a thread on Fat Wallet right now where for under $50 shipped from Staples you can get a USB card reader + 64 MB CF card.

Not too shabby.

Thanks for the info. I think I am going to get in on the deal from Staples.com

after the rebate its the same price as the Mr. Flash reader and 32 megs of memory from newegg.

BTW this is for the camera Kodak DC3200 that is on sale at CC B&M for $59. So far so good with the camera. Its a great deal after you convince the salesperson to scan the item because its not on sale for $109. ;)

well I just ordered the staples deal. I couldn't get any of the coupons to work other than the free Reader.

Still $49 plus tax for all that wasn't bad.

The reader want be here till 3-6-2002 but the flash media will be here tommorow.
