How good are R9 280X?

Looking at some benchmarks, it seems it is as good as a GTX 780. I have a pair of HD 7850s which I could sell on Ebay, which I absolutely fear and with an extra £20 get the R9 280X. Would be an excellent thing to do right?

Have any of you used ebay before and if so have you had any trouble?

EDIT: Looking at benchmarks it seems more like a GTX 770, I was going to keep my cards till the 20nm cards arrived...

I fear Ebay not my HD 7850s, I am quite happy with them except sometimes when it stutters like hell, which is rare.

lolwut? No, it's not as good as the 780. It's just an overclocked 7970 GHz.

280X is the same thing as a 7970 but is clocked slightly faster. Some delusional people here might tell you that the 7970 overclocks to be faster than Maxwell, these same people seem to think that 1300mhz overclocks are common with the 7970 (YEAH RIGHT) - but it is not as good as the GTX 780. It is much slower, but that is okay because the 280X is 300$ and the 780 is 650$.

All that aside, i'm not saying it's a bad card - it's a heck of a card but a more fit comparison is the GTX 770. It's about the same as a GTX 770 and 100$ less expensive - it's a great card and a heck of a value. Can't comment on ebay because I would never buy a GPU from ebay.

Its actually an underclocked 7970Ghz unless you get a factory OC.

280X no but 290X or 780 yes or just wait until next year for the new 20nm gpus

I meant I fear ebay, not my HD 7850s, but I am running them on a 550w PSU, which has stopped me overclocking my CPU

If you O/C those 7850's they'll be faster.

Overclocked to 1120mhz core and 1300mhz memory, they can Ultra Tomb raider and BF3 at 1440p without AA, which I don't need.

280X no but 290X or 780 yes or just wait until next year for the new 20nm gpus

Think you are right, just saw how cheap the R9 280X is though! IF I could do a straight swap I think I would most certainly do it though.

Sell your two 7850s and pick two 7950Boost before they disappear. Cost a little more than a 280X toxic but outperforms Titan easily.

r9 280x seems faster than 7970 ghz and about 60-80 bucks cheaper

I'd wait a little longer and see what happens when the 290x and the 780Ti hit the street. Prices may change some on the lower cards. AMD and nvidia are playing games right now and the consumer is getting confused with a bunch of rumor mongering. The week of Thanksgiving will be a good time for deals I'm thinking. BF happens then too.

If you were buying a card today, the 280X offers terrific value. Some of the newer custom cards are really nice and good improvement over similar 7970's. Credit goes to the AIBs for that. To replace 7850x2 though, I'm not so sure you'll perceive any improvement. You'll even loose some performance in games that Crossfire scales well in.

Would cost quite a bit more than a R9 280X though, at least here in England. I just saw the R9 280X really cheap, thought it was quite good and it wouldn't cost me much more if I sold my HD 7850s, but I am just going to wait till the middle of 2014 before I upgrade, see if I can kill them or not XD
