How good are Mushkin SSDs?

Just wondering about their overall quality, performance, and reliability.

These days, they all pretty much use the same controllers, except for the ones that can make them themselves (Sammy & Toshiba).
What varies is the NAND choice & the tweaks they do to the firmware.

i've had 3 of the chonos 120gb's

2 died because of firmware issues...but when the second one died i was going to rma to mushkin but they sent me a recovery tool and firmware and it fixed it. it's in my pc that i am using right now

the third is in my moms computer.

just backed it up so i expect it to fail soon.lol.

I have a failed Chronos Deluxe. BIOS won't see it. Think that the recovery tool would work on mine, or is it hardcore toast? It died in around a month after I got it. Cost me over $200.

Is it the same as the Mushkin "FieldUpdater", or is it a recovery tool?

afaik it's a recovery tool and it updates the firmware.

Neither of those tools worked. Thanks anyways. It must be really dead. (No detection at all.)

Edit: Or that tool doesn't work in Win10 1607 64-bit. Maybe I should try to find an XP PC to try it out on.

i have 2 of the 1 TB reactor drives

ive never had an issue and they are plenty fast

I bought a Mushkin 256gb back in 2012, used it for a while and migrated it to my Mom's PC.
It has never so much as given a single error or anything, so in my limited experience its a solid drive

I've got a 2 1Tb mushkin reactors in two different pcs (one is an OS drive, the other a data drive).
It's great, faster than my old 256gb crucial m4 and very cheap per GB ... we Canadians can regularly get it for 250$ cad (188$ USD) on newegg's ebay page.
I can't tell the difference in performance between this ans a 500gb Samsung 850 EVO.

I think, when I wanted an SSD to be center of my storage spotlight back in 2014, I was so inclined to the 840 Pro by Samsung that I wouldn't consider anything else. But the specs on 500GB to 1TB drives fall within a narrow range of read and write performance specs for several manufactures of SSDs.

Although one poster had a firmware problem with a Mushkin, I have a couple of the smaller Chronos drives in use and they seem just fine.

Leaning the other way for the last system I built and the one in progress, I've also found these ADATA SP550 SSD drives to meet expectations:

I've not had a problem with those nor the Mushkins. I must be fairly lucky for having bought two or three of the ADATA drives, though. The customer-reviews show too much of "DOA" and "failed after X months."
