How good are external optical drives??

Hello,

I have two new computers. the Cases for each computer is the Cooler Master ATC-620-SX1. Now, in both machines I have the 5.25 bays filled. the first computer has a 52x CDRW and the Cooler master "Musketeer". In the second PC i have a Lite-On 48x CDRW and another cooler master Musketeer. I have a samsung 16x DVD drive not currently being used that I would like to add to the computer w/ the 52x cdrw and I was thinking of getting a external USB 2.0 kit to convert the internal drive to external. my only question is, is that a good Idea? I mean I want to watch DVD's and don't want any kind of skipping what so ever. I have a sigma designs Xcard that i took out of my older system and wanted to put it in the computer too.

I have an external hard drive that is usb 2.0 and its fast as hell for what i use it for but i would like some feedback on what DVD would be like. Or would anyone recommend I take the 52x out, make that the USB drive and put the DVD in the case.

then my question is, is burning from a USB device good?

thank you!
