How good are ATI linux drivers now ???

just wondering if they will work fine with the usual loki games like UT
how do they compare to the nvidia drivers now ??

thanks

They're still not very good, but ATI has slowly been shifting more and more support towards Linux. Some decent drivers should be out soon, though I've never been a fan of ATI drivers.

ATI have made some progress recently with the linux drivers. They're definitely more stable, but have a long way to go performance wise.

And yes, games like UT, Quake 3, etc. run quite well. I still get better performance with the DRM in Half-Life under WineX though. 😕

Oh well, ATI have apparently stepped things up a bit on the linux front so we'll have to see how things go. 🙂

this is one of the main concerns between the 5600 ultra and the 9600 pro

i think i'm leaning towards the 5600 ultra now
the drivers were always good for me with my gf2 gts and gf4 ti4200

plus cg programing interests me a bit

thanks all

edit:
i've also owned an ati rage 128, a radeon 7500, and a voodoo5
theier drivers weren't good enough to run ut2k3 so that kinda ticked me off
