i've owned both. acer is a whole level above averatec in build quality. if you have the money, go with the acer. check out www.notebookforums.com and www.notebookreview.com. Both frums have good things to say about Acer laptops in general.

FYI, my averatec turns off after a few hours because of overheating. this is after i have sent it in to Averatec for warranty repair twice. They said they will not repair it again. I am just waiting until my warranty is finished in a couple weeks so i can complain to American Express.

I have an averatec 3225. It's a good notebook for a low price. I did notice that it gets quite warm. As far as features and weight go though, it's a good deal.

You want really good battery life... Cetrino...

Cheap processing power ... p4 /athlon

The latter kind are normally bigger and heavier...

Averatec 3150p is about the smallest, cheap laptop around. 7 months hard use and NP so far. Tech Support is always there. Does seem to get quite warm but so far NP. A little care using an this is a non issue.

Have had a problem with ACER memory and monitor and in both cases Tech Support was non existant and no satisfactory resolution was ever reached. No response to emails. Threw both away. Will never buy ACER/APACER anything again.

Go for Centrino if you can, you'll always appreciate the battery life! It may be above your price range though.
