How good, and how much, is a 8800GTX?

Just wondering, a friend has a Q6600 build with a EVGA 8800GTX, and it seems quite large... Similar in size to a Radeon HD4870 that I've seen...

~2008ish, how much was it worth? Was it one of the $350 video cards? (multiple months after its release, obv.)

Is it still good enough for most games today?

Mehhhhh, it was a god back in its days. Now it barely competes with I'd say an HD 5770.

its just a little slower overall than a 5750 so its still okay for most games.

It was one of the best cards ever built, probably the best vs the competition for nvidia ever...but it was released over 5 yrs ago. It's pretty slow now. It was more like $500 brand new. Today it's probably worth about $25.

http://www.hwcompare.com/1361/geforce-8800-gtx-vs-radeon-hd-5750-1gb/

first thing to pop up, when you google 8800gtx vs 5750.

It looks like the 5750 is around 11-47% faster, depending on the game.

And in fallout3, the 8800GTX ran into a memory limit situation, and there was a 124% differnce. But if we look past that 1 situation, looks like its around 11-47% slower than the 5750.

Not sure how creditable the source is though.

5750 performance level or so, isnt bad. If you stick to around 1680x1050 ish resolutions and not go overboard with AA, you should still have enjoyable gameing experiances even with the newest games.

- Power use, the 5750 uses like half the power draw the 8800GTX does.

Although the MSRP for the GeForce 8800 GTX is $599, this MSI card is currently retailing for around $650, though we are confident this price will fall eventually.
- techspot 2006.

So at launch the 8800GTX was supposed to cost 599$ = 600$, but MSI's ended up at 650$ probably due to price gaugeing at shops.

Today you can buy a brand new 6750 for like 80$ on newegg.
So the value of the 8800GTX would have to be somewhat lower than that.

I had one that died a few months ago. I was still playing everything with good FPS. They are selling for $50 up on eBay. Thought about getting another one for my backup PC, but bought a 6670 instead.
