How good a vacuum is 0.035 mpa?

I figure it's not great, but hope it's good enough. Got the Sinbo DZ-280/A vacuum sealer. Is that vacuum good enough to prevent spoilage and oxidation? I Googled and couldn't figure out how good 0.035 mpa is, where it ranks.

.035mpa is ~5.07psi. For reference, 14.7psi/.1mpa is atmospheric pressure.

Do you mean to say that only around 65% of the air is being removed? That seems pretty inadequate!

Is the "m" capitalized? If not 1 ATM = 101,325 pascals or .101 Mpa or 101,375,000 mpa.

Yes, the M is capitalized: under specs it says:

vacuum : 0.035 Mpa

So, I guess it really is only 65% reduction of air. I guess the fact is that at that pressure, the amount of air left in a bag with X in it is very little, however what is in there is 35% normal air. Maybe I should get some oxygen absorbing tablets and/or use some of those dessicants I've saved.

Sounds pretty good if you ask me. Does the included documentation not tell you what kind of shelflife food has when sealed? They usually throw that stuff out there for marketing purposes.

That's what it says under spec in the manual, but that manual rivals the worst of all time for accuracy. It's not even funny. In fact they spelled specifications "specitications." There's probably around 1 mistake/sentence.

Um, I bought 1/2 an ounce of good stuff, don't smoke very often and don't want it go bad on me. I posted and some people said get a vacuum sealer. I figure there's other things I can use it for but honestly most of the things people use sealers for I wouldn't bother. Of course, now that I have it I might find some things I want to use it for that I haven't thought of or don't realize the benefit now.

Yes, they have tables in the manual, and it's pretty funny. I'd post but I didn't find the manual online.

These are the people who make all the bags for vacuum sealing for the other sealer manufacturers, I'm told - Sorbent. They market several sealers, most are expensive and complex and obviously for industrial use. This one is for Joe and Jane home consumer. They have a promotion online for the sealer including 30 bags (standard, when you get this anywhere) and they include 200 ribbed bags for free, free shipping and all for $115. I should probably post in Hot Deals. I'm in California and they didn't even charge me tax, because the deal is send them a check or money order, no CC's. They seem very incredibly un-commercial.

Because I don't want my Cuban cigar tobacco to go stale? I'm not terribly nervous. But let's assume for a moment I were talking about pot. Hey dude, this is Berkeley, not Kingsburg. The Berkeley city government has long mandated minimum pot enforcement. You are making me wonder if I should blank out more details in my profile.

A good refrigerant vacuum pump can evacuate moisture down to less than 5 ppm, .01 bar, or 0.145 psi.

We currently have an embargo set against Cuba. Link has been forwarded to the department of justice.

You do NOT want a high vacuum. A vacuum sealer is supposed to remove from the bag all the air so that there is none left to "dilute" the material being sealed. It is not intended to create a completely airless vacuum chamber. If you actually did that, in the process of creating the high vacuum you would also suck out all the volatile components, like water (normal moisture content of tobacco or whatever) and a whole bunch of organic materials that are supposed to be part of the stuff you're saving. You would ruin the "good stuff".

OK, I was misinformed, it came from Virginia:

Anybody using a vacuum sealer for tobacco?

Further online investigations have me thinking that I may have bought the wrong vacuum generating system. Well, I guess the Sinbo is OK for storage in plastic bags of various kinds. The Pump-N-Seal is best for vacuum packing in jars. Much cheaper than electric sealers, it's a hand pump system, and if you believe the company, it achieves nearly 90% air removal.

This page has extensive practical information about it and another hand pump system (Vacuvin).
The link has details on how to make your own check valves for either hand pump system.
