Sup guys, its about time I get my new system rolled together and so far I've got these components already purchased and waiting to be put into use:

Storage: Western Digital Raptor 74gb SATA (10k RPM ^_^) - http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=22-144-160&depa=1

CDROM/DVD: NEC 8x 2500A DVD+/-R - http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=27-152-012&DEPA=1

Stuff I have sitting in my cart at Newegg, waiting to be ordered:

Video: Visiontek ATI x800 Pro (on backorder :/) - *link removed from outpost.com, check this thread from the hot deals forums for more info...

Phew, ok feedback is welcome. Please let me know if you guys think there are some better alternatives for any of these components. I know theres more good stuff coming down the road from both Intel and AMD, but I'm ready to put together a system NOW, not 6 months from now. TIA, and a big thanks to the hot deals forums for getting me some great deals on several of these components!

OH right, I forgot to mention

I'll have the OS and most programs installed on the 74, and other slower IDE drives in there for storage

I never really though about it, but are there any problems with running SATA and IDE in tandem? Is it even possible?

No problems with running SATA and IDE together. I use a raptor for my OS and games and a 120 gig WD drive for storage.

The reason I ask for alternatives is because I am very interested in the hyperthreading aspect of the P4s. Ultimately though, it seems the Athlon 64s offer better performance for gaming and are more future proof than the Intel counterparts. This machine will be used for audio production, so I'm hoping the lack of a hyperthreading feature will be made up for with raw speed and power. Thoughts?

looks good, but i'll have to tell you that no system is future proof, well, depending on how far into the future you look, but compared to a p4, it's better.
