How fun is halflife 2 multiplayer?

Plan on dropping buy at circuitcity tonight and pickup my copy of Halflife 2, but was wondering how good multiplayer is compared to Unreal2k4/BF1942esertCombat/Quake3/etc..


Is it fun online?

Half-Life 2 doesn't have a multiplayer mode. I think there may be something in the works, but atm, people play CS:Source as their HL2 MP.

Edit: It's possible that I'm wrong, but that's the last I heard. Plus when I open HL2, there's no MP option.

If you like counterstrike, then you will like its multiplayer. Right now imo, ut2k4 still holds the crown for best multiplayer.

theres a multi for HL2 thats not CS in the works thats coming soon. also a special map for people with super high end ATI cards

What makes you thing COD multiplayer is bad? I play that and Battlefield 1942 before CS these days.

Well it does come with CS:Source with IMO is a great game. I can play it for hours and hours on the right server.

you missed it. it was out at least a week before the game came out. lots of mods are already well under way.

Would you, or anyone else, know a good, up-to-date site to keep track of all the mods? Which ones are being hyped the most right now?

The option to install the SDK was available with my Collector's Edition when I registered it on steam and it was downloading extra stuff so it's out there.

Well he asked what the multi player aspect was ... So I told him... You might not think its good, and I never said you had to. All it ever was suppose to be was the source engine on CS, and thats what you got. Like I said I think its great and alot of others do too. not everyone because they don't like CS etc, but ALOT do like CS so why change it?

I haven't bought HL2 yet due to this fact. I had hoped that valve would at least include HL:Source Deathmatch since we knew ahead of time there would be no HL2 MP.

I don't really care for CS, but enjoyed HLM alot. I would rather have valve spent a few of those many many hours working on the game developing some great in house DM like they did the first time. It seems like they're waiting for another mod maker to step up and do their work for them for free, like what happened with CS.

After all, what happened to those hours spent on TF2?
