How full for a HTPC HDD?

I know it's not the best idea to load a HDD up to capacity on a system drive, but how far should I load my drives up if all they do is have files on them? I will have a separate SSD for the OS and other programs on my HTPC, so the HDDs will only have media files on them.

If you're storing large media files like recorded video and movies, it likely won't get very fragmented, so there shouldn't be much or any performance degradation due to filling up the drive.

The reason you need spare space on a HDD is for avoiding fragmentation and defragging.
