How Fast Will the first batch of T-Breds be?

Just curious............Was gonna order the Athlon XP 1900+ when I saw it for $144 at newegg, but considered the fact that t-breds are suppose to be out soon. ANyone know how soon and how much will they run for??????????????? TIA

performance is probably gonna be the same as Palmino(However you spell it). The only difference is the die-shrink.

t-breds will overlap current palomino's in clock speed any the top chip will be maybe one speed bin higher.

I heard rumors that it may debut at 1.8ghz or 2200+ speed...I also hear there will be a .18micron 2200+ as well...so may be I am wrong or maybe they may jump back a bit to like 1.6ghz and offer a .13micron chip....

Like mentioned above it will only be a die shrink...no added cache...likely from discussions no great cooling reductions as well....how well will they overclock and how much room will the .13 micron process add...who knows!!!! I guess we will have to wait and see what those temps will be like....

Does anybody know what the listed default vcore will be for thorouhbreds??? Will it be similar to locked .18 xp chips???

I think that the slowest T-Bred will be the 1800+, and they will release a 2200+ as the top of the line. The T-Bred laptops actually have 512k of cache instead of 256k. Hopefully the desktop version will feature the extra cache too.

It's a myth.
The Throughbred Mobile's contain the same 256K L2 as their desktop counterparts will, and at least initially will continue to utilize the 200MHz FSB the Palomino mobile processors do.
The desktop Throughbred also has a 256K L2 cache, and similarly the same 266MHz FSB of their predecessors.
AMD has already confirmed as much, and they also reported that Compaq et al was incorrect and in fact the suppoed 'Throughbred' Compaq was advertising wasnt even a Throughbred at all, but merely the same Palomino core we can already purchase.

Regarding TBred launch, the Desktop Throughbred isnt expected to launch until late Q2 2002, so your likely looking at the mid-point of June before it's officially available.
Rumours of the speed at which it will launch vary from early reports of 2200+, to more recent reports of 2400+.

Hopefully AMD releases a lower clocked T-Bred..(like an 1800+ or 1900+). I have a feeling these would turn into the next P4 1.6A northwoods.

Probably a really stupid question at this point, but they havn't released any preliminary price estimates yet, have they?

I would have to disagree....... AFAIK, AMD hasnt been letting enthusiasts overclock their computer like Intel. Well, except for the Duron 600s. But we will see how it overclocks soon.
