Just curious cause a web hosting company I'm considering using in the future says "OC-12/T3 Connectivity"

Hmmm... I wonder why they say OC-12/T3 then... T3 isn't that fast... is it?

BTW... did you mean MBps? as in Megabytes... or mbps as in Megabits?

I mean Mbps small "b"

Perhaps they are talking about their range of data line services.

Who knows.. you should ask them.

OC-12 is 622 Mbps (Mb = megabit, MB = megabyte). T3 is 43 Mbps.

To convert to megabytes per second: 77.75 MBps and 5.38 MBps, respectively.

Ahhh, that could be... probably is... but I don't think I'm gonna deal with them after some links to complaints someone else posted in another thread.

If they say OC-12/T3 when describing their bandidth, it probably means that they have multiple ISP's - One is probably on an OC-12 and another a T3. You have to be slightly careful on these kind of numbers, however. They could just be reselling space in a colo facility and that's the overall capacity of the colo, not the hosting provider. Also, the OC-12 could be their transport and T3 their actual circuit speed. (Transport means the type of line that comes into the building - Once it hits the building it can be split up into smaller chunks.).

Just for random information. A T3 is the same as a DS3 and it is 28 DS1/T1s which are about 1.5mbps each (24 64Kb channels) and a T1's channel is also called a DS0, basically, a phone line.

OC is Optic Carrier, so it's fiber, and I think the highest they are at now is 40Gbps or something like that. I forget the number though I think it's OC750 or something like that. I saw that on a site and I said "wow!" My supplier has OC12 routers for 75,000 in case anyone needs one. Or you can go to a car dealer and get yourself a very nice car, your choice. :D
