How fast is my cpu for gaming?

I got one of those cheap s754 2800 semprons from newegg a while ago. Since I wasnt playing any 3d games, I had mine running unoverclocked at stock speeds. Now that I got a used 9800, I started playing some CS-Source and whatnot. Yesterday, I overclocked it to 8x275=2200 @+1.5 vcore and its been running rock solid. What would this cpu be equivalent to in terms of A64 speeds? This one has 256kb L2 cache, as opposed to 128kb of 3100 s754s.

I'm sure your going to get some descent scores (benchmarking), peformance (gaming). Heck, my sempron 3100+ performed like i'd expected, perfect for the money !

I would guess that the cpu speed will farily match on a 3200 S754

I dont think so.

Specs of 3100+ Sempron - 1.8 GHz, 256 KB of L2, 32 Bit
Specs of 3200+ Athlon 64 on 754 - 2.2 GHz, 512 KB of L2, 64 Bit

Your Sempron should be performing at about a 3200+ level, indeed. The added FSB makes it up for the less cache. Great overclock, and I doubt you will find games that won't like your setup.

It should be about a 3200+ or better. Mine is rated at about a 3600+ or 3700+.
The extra 256k only gives it the processor a 2-5% boost in performance.

overclock it some more:)
My first overclock was 2.2 ghz right out of the box, 2nd was 2.4 and stayed there while i had my xp90. When i built my watercooling and did 2.65ghz but didn't wanna push it that hard. You should be able to do 2.4 with no problems.

mine is running with Zalman CNPS7700-AlCu. I dont feel like spending $$$ more or increasing the noise level for extra performance.. good to hear its better than what I expected tho :)

Performance is around a 3000+ 754, probably better. I don't think it will be close to a 3200+ though.

should be pretty close...the benches seem to show the 256k sempies are pretty good (maybe 2-5% slower)

just stay away from the 128k cache ones, those OC nicely, but you just cripple the chip with such a small cache...

Why don't you check www.tomshardware.com and compare for yourself! They have the ultimate CPU showdown listed there and you can see how your exact processor stacks up:p From what I see, your processor should be acceptible...

prolly between a 3000 and a 3200. Lose some on the cache and make up some on the fsb...overall it will be fine for an entry level gaming rig.

I overclocked my sempron "paris" @ 2.069 Ghz, a nice performance boost imo. nonetheless, it flys !

lol yeah :p. That's why I got the sempron 3100 "paris" because of their reviews...i'm really really satisfied. It's freakin' fast (for my 1st built)

You're probably equivalent to a 2ghz s939 A64. I say overclock it some more, though. My 2800+ Palermo went up to 2.7 on air with a DFI, so I'm sure that you should be able to hit 2.4 provided you have a DFI, Chaintech VNF-250, or Epox.

yeah, i remember replying to you in jelaousy in that thread on Hot Deals forum :p my mobo is EPOX 8DKA3J, and I could probably do a bit better with a more performance oriented h/s like xp90. But I like how my zalman keeps the computer only about as loud as the dell sitting next to it (actually it is quieter to my ears), and doubt extra money and trouble would be worth the improvement. at 276Mhz, it gave me a BSOD, which makes me think 275Mhz is about highest thing cpu will go.

" I had mine running unoverclocked at stock speeds."

Something about this sentence cracks me up. Hehe
yeah, i made it sound like some very unusual practice :)

i went back and fiddled around it a bit more, ending up with 279*8 @ 0.5+ vcore. the heighest I have tried was 282*8 and cs would end up in BSOD after a while, or wouldnt load fully. seeing how vcore didnt make any difference and temperature was well within tolerable range, I figure ram upgrade is next in order. obviously, my ram arent the heighest quality - pc2700 valuerams from kingston and apacer (forgot which brand to be exact). Strangely, "max mem speed" option in the bios didnt do the trick, as it shows up as 235mhz during POST. maybe i should try updating the bios, or lower the memory timings.
