How fast is a STOCK Nissan 240SX?

I found this 1991 240SX. Stock, it has 140hp and 145lb-ft. I'm thinking of getting it to learn how to drive stick, and then swapping a SR20DET. (200hp and 200lb-ft, capable of at least 300hp with little effort.)

Btw, the car weighs ~2700lbs stock. It should be at least 100lbs lighter after the swap (I think). AND it's RWD.

For that price? That's a really good buy, just be sure everything's in proper order. I don't now how fast those things go though. Sorry :(

a 240sx with that sr20det engine swap and a few other bolt ons will turn it into a fast car. Just imagine the look on the other driver's face when your a few car lengths ahead of him a couple seconds into the raace.

That's what I like to hear. Let's get some more drivers to learn manual so that we can find more sticks in the US!

Personally, I can't see why people don't learn when they get their license. It so simple to learn it should be a requirement! :)

Heck, I would be VERY embarrassed if I couldn't drive a manual.

It's one thing to not learn how to drive a manual, it's another to not be able to learn. I think the main reason most cars sold in the US are automatics is because there aren't enough manuals around for people to learn to drive them. It's a fairly risky venture to buy a stick shift car if you've never driven one before. That is why in my family when I turned 16 my parents just bought me a POS 1979 VW Rabbit w/ a stick shift. It was like $400 or something like that, but it was a great learning vehicle. We still have it today (~4 years later) & my brother is learning on it.

EDIT: I should clarify that it's not really POS it's just a tiny car w/ no frills. Mechanically it's the most sound car I've ever driven. Even with 400k+ miles on it (on the original engine & tranny....'bout the 4th clutch) it's still very reliable. Only problem we ever had with it is that the radiator rusted out from driving on the thruway (they really oversalt it). I'm so impressed with it I plan on buying another VW once I get the funds together.

What other driver? Driving what? Another 240sx? A 400 hp camaro or corvette? Swapping a small engine for another small engine seems kinda dumb to me, it's like they only do it to get "mad props" from other fans of slow cars.

Over here in Australia, when we go for our drivers license, we take lessons beforehand with an instructor from a Driving School. They supply the car for you to practise in, which is always a manual (or STICK as US people call it :)) Most people here buy a manual for a first car too....but we do also drive older cars then you guys. Heck my first car was a 1970 Toyota Corona, Second was an 1981, third a 1974, fourth a 1985, Fifth a 1983 (still got that one, lovely car too!) and yesterday bought a cheap 1975 Datsun, for only $490 bucks (Australian) as a runabout to the train station and back. No need for the new cars I reckon :)

go back to whatever hole you came from. if you don't know what you're talking about, stfu. let's compare some numbers... a 300hp+ 2600lb 240sx vs a 400hp 3600lb camaro.

which one will be faster, AND be able to handle better because it's not nose heavy?

dumbass.

BTW, here you go: Performance numbers
>>

You guys aren't getting his point. He wants a project car and wants to learn how to drive a stick. For a $3000 car and a $1000 engine swap and you already have a decent car. Like I said earlier, drop another $1000-$2000 on top of that engine swap and your gonna have a FAST car.

My project car is going to be an 87 Maxima that my friend is graciously giving me. I'm gonna see how much I can squeeze outta that maxima engine. :)

I forgot to mention. The 240SX's 31ft turning radius will be a VERY nice change from my Eclipse's 40ft radius. :)

i smoked my friends 2002 V6 Eclipse GT off the line...had him by 3-4 cars and then his HP started to catch up...but by then the race was already over and i own...that was on my KADE engine. His mouth just dropped when he saw my launch...

1) is your car modified?
2) is his an automatic or a spyder?
3) if he was driving a stick, he's not a very good driver.

stock vs stock, the eclipse gt beats the 240sx. i know that firsthand.

both cars are 5pd....he has a regular V6 GT. I also have a custom sound system in my ride that weighs at least 75 lbs. At that time all i had was my injen cold air filter system. I gotta admit that i raped him off the line but he was catching up fast....but a win's a win =)

So in your opinon, if it were just car vs. car & not driver vs. driver, your car would lose?

Well, based on the link that RagingBITCH gave me, '91 240SX has a 0-60mph time of 8.3s and a 1/4mile time of 16.2s. The Eclipse GT can hit 6.7s and high 14s, low 15s with a good driver.
