How fast is a fiber connection?

My community has recently decided to install a fiber to the home network since we had no broadband connection available.

Well, Qwest decided to install DSL out of the blue a couple weeks ago so most of the city (not me....yet 🙁 ) has DSL available. People are asking how fast the fiber connection would be compared to DSL.

I have absolutely no idea 😕

Currently our DSL runs at 640 down and 256 up. So how much faster would fiber be?

We have fiber running through our neighborhood. It's only as fast as they give you. even though it could be insanely fast. I'm on bellsouth DSL and I get 1500/256

Majority of the time the down is more like 2000 though.

Depends on what type of service you want...it could be customizable to fit your needs...

Or, more like customizable to what you're willing to pay for

Grant County (I think it was Grant) in Washington received a grant to fund the installation of fiber in the county. As far as I know, they're running 10 Mbit Internet connections.

ups

Without more specifics its hard to say. Fiber is the carrier, what you run over it depends on your (or their) budget. Last fiber connection I set up was OC12 (622 Mbps). You can run faster then that, or slower. It all depends on what you are willing to spend basically.
