How fast is a decent compact flash card?

I really would like to know this because i can save a bundle if i buy a 4x card rather than a 12x card. I know the 12x will load a picture faster... but how much faster? I have a canon A75

CF cards now come in 40X and above which will load the pics acordingly but to move them to the Puter it would go by the CF card proprietory...so 12X would be 3X faster than the 4X in theory that is...

so the "x" stuff is simply for speed transfering to the computer and not the time it takes to save a shot while taking pictures? Would i notice any delay when taking pictures.

You wont notice a difference with an A75. Save some $$

I second that. Any CF card should do fine with an A75.

and 3rd here unless you plan on upgrading to 1 Camera that may have Video capabilities in the future and/or use the CF Card for other reasons ...

It really depends on what camera you are using. It boils down to write speed and how soon you can be ready for the next shot. I use a 512 MB SanDisk Extreme Ultra - better than 40x - but that is with a 6 megapixel Canon D60. I also have an Elph, and do not need that sort of speed with it.

I like writing speeds as well (and both ends will always improve) but readiing is just as important ...esp when tranfsering!
