Just curious, some of you know I am having problems getting my new OCZ PC-150 CAS 2-2-2 to run at PC133 2-2-2 w/ 4 way Interleave. Now, I checked the chips this afternoon and they have a -75 on them, meaning 7.5ns, correct? I thought PC150 needed to be -6 or -65?

Matt contacted me from OCZ and asked for my phone number so he can arrange my shipping back of the memory.

I will be ordering some KingMax PC-150 Cas2 from IcompZ.com. Any other Reccommendations? Looking for PC150 Cas 2-2-2, 256meg for around $175.

I'm no memory expert, but I think you're right. PC150 should be at least 6.5 ns. To give you an idea, my Apacer PC133 cas3 mem is 7ns, yet I have run it without problems at cas 2 up to 147FSB!

Kingmax PC150 memory is 6.6 ns and sell for $69 for 128mb.

Hope this helps.

Actually $169 for Kingmax + Shipping at IcompZ. Just wondering if anyone reccomends any other memory. In the latest memory shootout that I read, Kingmax came out on top...so thats what I will probably go with.

For $169, Kingmax PC150 will be your best bet. I'd recommend Mushkin High Perf. Rev.3 over the Kingmax but that's a lot more expensive; so go with the Kingmax. I'm sure you'll be happy with it as lots of other people are.

basic calculation requirements..

1000/100mhz = 10ns - thats why 10ns was also call pc100 at times
1000/133mhz = 7.5ns - thats the minimum for 133mhz
1000/150mhz = 6.66ns or 6.5 - minimum require for 150mhz.

1000/112mhz = 8.9/9ns - thats why your real pc100 @ 8ns can overclock
1000/124mhz = 8ns - perfect for those of you that uses this fsb..

so that 150 should have 6.5 ns chips..

i have 7.5 ns infineon RAM. it hits 143 FSb at cas2. at 146 runs but then locks. at 149 locks up quickly.

i can't believe OCZ would say 7.5 ns is PC150. what a bunch of crooks.

Well, there are a lot of people pre-testing stuff and putting their "Guaranteed to run at xxx" label on these things. We have CPUs and RAM treated this way and I'm sure that as long as the name on the label is reputable, it should be fine. Even if it's 7.5ns, if they dare to put their name on it, then I'd buy them. Problem is whether the name can be trusted. For OCZ, I'd think twice.

I am going to call them tomorrow and let them know it is 7.5ns ram. If they want to do the "Right" thing, they should cross ship, OVERNIGHT, a 6 or 6.5ns Stick of ram so I don't have to re-order from another company.

Or maybe not...remeber that saying Screw me Once, shame on you, Screw me Twice, shame on me?

Here are the markings on the chip:

48LC16M8A2
75B

I looked them up on the Micron web page as per Spoon and it appears to be CAS3 @ 133mhz Ram!!! So I have no idea how they tried to pass it off as Cas2 @ 150!

Here is the DataSheet Page:
DataSheet Listing
Here is the actual DataSheet:
DataSheet in .PDF format

I am still wainting for Matt to contact me about shipping back the memory.

Well as you may remember I started a thread here about OCZ myself.
I got the box O stuff today, in it was supposedly some Arctic Silver paste and also some Arctic Silver adhesive.
What I got for adhesive was the tube marked "Part A".
I tried gluing some stuff with it and of course no go.
Looked on the A.S. web page under the Adhesive and it shows that it's a two tube deal, like epoxy.
All this to say that when it comes to shipping out product they need to pay a bit more attention to the details. Maybe they simply shipped you the wrong ram? Matt's job seems to be to try to cover their collective a$$.
The rest of my order came as expected, so I am pleased with that - considering I placed the order two weeks ago... Once they shipped it was here like next day! If they only would reduce the processing time by 8 to 10 days and pay more attention to the details.
Of course the reason this all is an issue anyway is because their prices are very attractive.
But what's that old proverb...something like:
fond memory of low price quickly erased by sting of inferior product. :frown:

Mamisano- Remember though, they never really said that it was PC150 ram. Just that it was guaranteed to run at 150.

"The Performance Series Enhanced is OCZ's lastest revision of hand picked, pretested memory. 150 MHz 2/2/2. The memory chips are manufactured by Micron or Infineon. OCZ hand tests each module up to 150 MHz and beyond at CAS 2/2/2."

Try and get either an exchange or your money back based on the fact that it doesn't perform as advertised, not that they sold you the wrong stuff. The write up on the memory is misleading... but they didn't lie about the ram.

Spooon,
I understand that, but I am not sure how they can pre-test CAS3 PC133 and have it run at CAS2 PC150. At least with Kingmax, you really get 6.5ns chips and thats the route I am going to go.

The guarantee of PC150 with 7.5ns RAM can only be offered by pre-testing and even then, no one can say how long it will work at an overclocked spec. I'd spend the money to go with a reputable company offering a lifetime waranty.

128MB Mushkin High Performance REV 3 222

Note that these Infineon chip are 7.5ns. They are the same chips used on this module which is only guaranteed to do PC133 2-2-2:

256MB Mushkin High Performance REV2 PC133 222

Of course, with quality RAM you may go higher:

Modding a DIMM for performance / Mushkin Rev.3

The rev.2 PC133 ran reliably at 150 but wouldn't hit 166 (oh my poor PCI slots!) which the 128MB module with the same chips was able to do.

If you want better chances, buy Kingmax PC150 or Mosel PC143 from a dealer who will take them back if they fail.

Good luck.

P.S. - I just realized that I'm stupid. I never figured out that my BX board (Soyo 6BA+IV has an auto 1/4 PCI divider so that the PCI bus speed is always between 33 and 41. I could never overclock my PIII cA2 high enough to make use of the 1/4 PCI setting.
