I am looking at getting an Astraweb unlimited DSL plan, unlimited transfer @ 2mbit.. how fast is 2mbit in k/second? My DSL is capped at 110k/s anyways, so if 2mbit is around there or better, then this plan would be pefect for me. Also, anyone here use Astraweb or know if it is any good or not, I see it recommended the odd time, but I am not too sure.. I am moving from Easynews

divide mbit by 8 to get mbyte, then by 1024 to get kilobytes per second. 2mbit = 0.25mbyte = 250kbyte/sec?

Would be a waste? What do you mean? I regularly get much faster than 2mbit downloads.

As long as it will max my connection then it doesn't really matter. Astraweb only has dial-up and DSL plans, the dialup one is only 600kbit and the DSL is 2mbit. Looks like I may try out Astraweb, however i'm not too keen on not having a web interface

How in the world are they getting 600kbit/s off of a dial up line

well if you add in the TCP frames and everything it would be about 200kb/sec

so i assume 2 mbit would give 4 times that at 256kb/s

1mb = 1024 kb

If you are only getting 64kb, you have a problem somewhere. I can generally get 640kb on my 768kb line.

Slower than my 10 MBit connection :p.

Same here :) OOL

Yup. I am going to dread the day leaving for college and getting less speed. I tried using dial-up a few months ago, and I nearly cried at how slow it is. Still even DSL speeds are slow to me. I guess I am just royally spoiled by OOL.

you must not have broadband.

MOST of my downloads are at my line's full 200 KB/s speed, and the initial bursts are usually in the 400 KB/s range before Comcast's limiters kick into gear. Servers that can't put out full broadband speeds are few and far between these days.
